Convergence & near-far focus trainer.
Two short exercises for eye-teaming and focus flexibility: a target that shifts near and far, and two dots that drift apart for you to fuse into one. Pick a duration and pace, then start.
Your system is set to reduce motion, so this uses manual step buttons instead of continuous animation.
Press Space or tap "I see it" the instant the letter changes.
Accuracy: —
Relax or gently cross your eyes so the two dots fuse into three, with the middle one in focus.
The science behind this
Comfortable near vision needs two systems working together. Accommodation is the ciliary muscle reshaping the lens to focus up close; vergence is the eyes rotating inward (convergence) so both foveas stay on the same target. The two are neurally coupled — focusing drives some convergence automatically.
The near-far task trains accommodative facility (how quickly you can change focus), while the two-dot fusion task trains fusional vergence (holding a single image as demand increases). Convergence insufficiency — difficulty sustaining convergence at near — is a common, treatable cause of eye strain and blur while reading.
Evidence & context
- Office-based vergence and accommodative therapy has clinical support for convergence insufficiency (e.g., the CITT trial)
- These skills underlie reading stamina and near-work comfort
Limitations
- This is practice, not treatment; a true binocular-vision disorder needs diagnosis and a supervised program.
- Stop if you get pain, a headache, or double vision that won't clear.
